Fatphobia has roots in racism.
I am not going to pretend that I've been active in this movement before now.
Have I sympathized? Yes.
Have I done much about it? No.
That makes me a neutral bystander, which is equivalent to racism, as far as today's politics are concerned.
But when you know better, you do better.
So I am making a more active effort to represent even more diversity in personal scrolling habits and in my Daily Dose.
I am also learning as I go, and I invite you to learn with me.
My account remains centered on Binge/Restrict & Diet Culture Recovery. I will continue to speak on body image restoration and self-growth related to this platform.
But I will make an effort to listen harder, represent wider, and to share what I learn.
I will start here by highlighting how fatphobia is rooted in racism, and how the acceptance of ALL BODIES (by color, size, or otherwise) is the gateway to dismantling fatphobia.
Fatphobia is the fear/dislike of fat people, or of being fat, and drives the systemic discrimination of people in fat bodies.
Being afraid of gaining weight is internalized fatphobia.
You're not a bad person for having this inside of you. You were brought up in it. You were taught to believe in it, or risk disapproval & rejection.
But when you know better, you do better.
Investigate diet culture and the ways in which it has taught you to discriminate. See it for what it is. Your fear of being fat is about much more than meets the eye.
Change is personal first.
